Music Lessons
-
I have been a professional vocalist for the past ten years and my teaching style incorporates classical, jazz and pop vocal-techniques. Ear training, healthy singing approaches and harmony training are also included in my vocal instruction.
-
I currently study with the fabulous Bay Area Jazz Pianist Larry Dunlap. My piano instruction includes jazz and classical technique, sight-reading proficiency as well as chordal comping and easy-going piano playing.
I teach beginner level to children 6 years old+ and adults.
-
I teach rhythm guitar, chordal analysis, fretboard identification and I assist my students in understanding and creating interesting chord progressions and make learning songs fun and approachable!
-
Cultivating my students musicianship skills is at the heart of every lesson I teach. These skills include an understanding of music theory and a comprehensive training of one’s ear.
Improving musicianship opens a doorway to developing a wholesome understanding of music that will liberate and inspire every musician.
TESTIMONIALS
“I am an upcoming 90’s-Soul, RnB and Jazz singer, based out of the Bay Area, who was seeking an affordable vocal coach to teach me new techniques to improve my vocal sound, range, breath control, and confidence. I was able to find the lovely Miss Maisha through an online sight for vocal coaching. I chose her because she not only studied music, but she is beautifully passionate about her craft, which is important while seeking someone to help you advance in your musical journey. My first time going to Maisha literally changed my life for the better!! She is patient, kind, has a wide vocal range, is well practiced, talented, open to different genres of music, and over all an amazing spirited and supportive teacher! Thank you so much to Maisha for all that you do within the music community and for all that you do in order to support your students through their individual journeys.” ~Jada Chea
"During my two-year training with Maisha, I progressed from having no music-reading ability to composing my own songs and performing at open mic events. Her musical expertise helped me develop a deeper understanding of music theory beyond just memorizing keys and facts. Additionally, her exceptional guitar skills enabled me to tackle more challenging songs and enhance my guitar technique. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking to learn a new instrument or improve their overall musicianship. She is kind, professional, and a delight to work with and learn from." ~Connie Jimenez
"I grew up playing folk songs on my guitar with my parents. I always wanted to learn technique and when my cousin asked me to sing for her wedding, I had my motivation. Maisha was so great. She really taylors the lessons based on what you're interested in. She has a great ear and a great way of explaining technique. She is an accomplished musician and singer, but very humble and supportive. If you're feeling intimidated by the prospect of learning singing technique, don't. Maisha knows what she's doing." ~Jesse Rhodes
“Our daughter is loving her singing lessons with Maisha. Not only is she really starting to develop her voice more, she is motivated and excited to work on it and grow as a singer. Maisha's professionalism is apparent in how she works with our daughter and she covers a great deal of work in the hour that she has with her.” ~MaryMar K.
“I've taking voice lessons with Maisha Lani for 2 years now. My first lesson, I kept saying 'I'm not a singer. I don't think I can do this.' Maisha flipped that mentality very quickly. She's a magician with the voice and really showed me how beautiful, healing, and fun it is to sing. Maisha has worked with me on my ear training, tons of vocal exercises, my breathing, and she's helped me learn a bunch of songs. I'm so grateful I've been able to connect with her. I've grown so much!” ~Craig Miller
“Maisha Lani is an intensely talented and grounded vocal teacher. She has an abundance of vocal exercises that she used in our lessons together that really helped open up my voice. She is kind, sweet, patient, flexible, and attentive to the needs of the student. She uses her keyboard in the lessons to help the student find the note, and even incorporates vocal exercises that involve movement and explore facial structure and movement. After our lessons I felt like I was not only a more confident singer but I also felt more clarity in my voice. I would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for fabulous voice lessons!” ~Miriam Raziel
